India’s Top 5 Most Fuel-Efficient Cars; Fuel efficiency remains a primary consideration for car buyers in India, despite fuel prices not fluctuating as before but as ownership costs rise. Higher mileage directly reduces long-term running expenses, especially for daily city commuting and for those that have made the highways their escape.

Peeking into the list of India’s most fuel-efficient cars shows that strong hybrids are taking over at the top while small and light hatches continue to be big players in this space. Here is a look at five of the most fuel-efficient models currently available in the Indian market.

1) Maruti Suzuki Victoris – 28.65kmpl

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid tops the list of most fuel-efficient cars sold in India, with a claimed mileage figure of 28.65 kmpl. This mileage for the Maruti Victoris is thanks to a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine paired with an electric motor producing 116 hp and 144 Nm, paired with an e-CVT gearbox.

In addition to the strong hybrid, the Victoris is also offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, available with manual transmission options, all-wheel drive and CNG variants.

Features on The Victoris include 8-way adjustable ventilated front seats, a sunroof, 60W fast charging support, Alexa voice assistant integration, Suzuki Connect with over 60 connected car features, a powered tailgate with gesture control, ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an eight-speaker sound system.
Safety equipment comprises six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, an electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS features.

2 (Tie) – Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara & Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder – 27.97kmpl

The Grand Vitara strong hybrid and Toyota Hyryder strong hybrid deliver a claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 27.97 kmpl. Both SUVs were jointly developed by Maruti and Toyota and share identical powertrain configurations with the newer Victoris.

Both the SUVs are powered by a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine producing 116 hp and 144 Nm, paired with an e-CVT transmission. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is also available with manual gearbox options, including AWD and CNG variants.

3) Honda City e:HEV – 27.26kmpl

The only sedan in this list, the Honda City e:HEV, has a claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 27.26 kmpl. The hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine with two electric motors.

The combined system output stands at 125 hp and 253 Nm, paired with an e-CVT gearbox. Key features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, ambient lighting, electric sunroof and a 7-inch colour TFT instrument cluster.

4)Maruti Suzuki Celerio – 26kmpl

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio offers a claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 26 kmpl. It is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 69 hp and 91 Nm.

Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. Features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, push-button start/stop, manual air conditioning, keyless entry and voice recognition.

5) Maruti Suzuki Swift – 25.75kmpl

The Maruti Suzuki Swift rounds off the list with a claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 25.75 kmpl. It is powered by a Z-Series 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 82 hp and 112 Nm.

Features on the Swift include a 9.0-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, wireless charger, semi-digital instrument cluster with 4.2-inch MID, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, push-button start and rear parking camera with sensors.
